Our eternal destiny as Catholics is to live with Christ forever, provided we persevere to the end (Matthew 24:13). This intimate union with Christ begins right now in this life through Baptism and is nurtured by growing in the spiritual life through prayer and participation in the Holy Mysteries. At the end of time, after the judgment, Christ will renew the entire universe, finally setting aright all of creation and filling it with his glory. “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away” (Revelation 21:1). Christ will say, “Behold, I make all things new” (Revelation 21:5). And at last the saints will enter into God’s rest, and Christ will be all in all (I Corinthians 15:28).
